∙ 13y agoActually, the Mayflower Compact written in 1620 by the Purtians when they arrived in Mass. can be considered the first written constitution in America. This predates the Fundamental Orders by 19 years.
Technically the Mayflower Compact is NOT a constitution , so the first written CONSTITUTION is The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut.
The Mayflower Compact is just a compact that pledged loyalty to England and declared their intention of forming "a civil body politic for our better ordering and preservation."
