Yes. I own a 2000 Chevy Blazer.

I have a 2003 s-10 blazer and the auto stores only show rear disc brakes, mine have drums, why is that

User Avatar

There's no guarantee that they will. Disc brakes have a higher initial cost and are prone to heating more quickly than foundation drum brakes.

User Avatar

NO. I had a 96 and it had drum brakes. I believe the rear disk brakes started in 1998 for the Blazers.

Some versions had rotors all around, but 99% of these trucks had rear drum brakes.,,,,,,,,,,,disc and rotor brakes are the same thing, they are the ones that are squeesed from both sides with pads and A calliper, DRUM brakes are the ones that have "shoes" on the inside pushing outward.Hope this helps, Jamison.

yes. most gm made trucks hav disc brakes all the way around since about 2002

You have hydraulic brakes and air brakes. Hydraulic brakes can be drum or disc. Air brakes can be drum, disc, or wedge. On a lot of medium duty trucks and RVs, the parking brake can be a shaft brake, mounted to the back of the transmission.

An 03 would have them all around.

Does this Blazer have four wheel disc Brakes? NEW ANSWER: There's no reason to bleed brakes if you did not open the system.( where brake fluid came out )

User Avatar

This varies based on the model of truck. First determine if your truck has drum brakes or disc brakes. See related questions and links for more specific details on replacing brakes for specific models of Ford trucks.

Front disc brakes were an option when the car came out in 1966

User Avatar

Semi trucks often use compression brakes. When activated compression brakes open valves in the engine, slowing down the engine and bringing the truck to a stop. Non-semi trucks use disc brakes to stop. A common type of brake system used in big trucks is the air operated "S" cam.

The front brakes are disc brakes and are self adjusting. The rears are drum brakes and are also self adjusting providing the self adjusting mechanism is in working order.

Its got disc brakes in the front, therefor brake pads and its got drum brakes in the back, therefor brake shoes

User Avatar

yes they did. both 71 and 72 came standard with disc brakes and they were all 5 lug. 1967-1970 were all drum brake and 6 lug

User Avatar

The first year it came standard with disc brakes up front would be 1971. For a couple years before that it was an option.

User Avatar

Wagonners, pickups, and the Jeepster had disc brakes in 1972. The CJ did not get disc brakes until 1977.

Disc brakes stop a vehicle more efficiently than drum brakes.

User Avatar

Yep. What about them? S-cam foundation brakes, disc brakes, and piston brakes are available. Wedge brakes are a bit of dinosaur, but still might be seen from time to time (particularly on the steer axles of vocational and heavy haul trucks).

User Avatar

GM went with drum brakes on the back of the 1500 series trucks to keep manufacturing costs down,I remember my 97 F-150 had drum brakes in the back and they worked fine.

User Avatar

Not sure about the GM cars, maybe 1968-1969. GM trucks came with disc brakes starting in 1971.

User Avatar

As long as it takes. You didn't specify a model (remember, Kenworth makes Class 5 through Class 8 trucks), you didn't specify a brake system (S-cam air brakes, hydraulic brakes, hydraulic disc brakes, air disc brakes, air wedge brakes, or air piston brakes), and we don't know your level of technical experience.

Four-wheel disc brakes were introduced in 1965 on the Corvette. Some AMC vehicles had Disc Brakes, and the Studebaker Avanti also had Disc Brakes. I know of no other American vehicles in 1965 with disc brakes. FYI, the 1948 Tucker had Disc Brakes as standard equipment. Only 51 examples were ever made.
