Below is a partial list of the function of chemical engineers in automotive design:
1. Thermal management of fuel systems, mainly fuel tank, to reduce fuel temperature and fuel vapor pressure. This requires applications of thermodynamics of fuel mixtures and heat transfer.2. Selection of appropriate materials to meet the temperature requirements in the vehicle under-hood and under-body.
3. Approve all selected material for mechanical and thermal requirements
4. Evaluation and selection of low weight composite materials for improvement of fuel economy.
5. Application of predictive methods for evaluation of material life under vehicle thermal environment by applying kinetic thermal degradation models.
6. Simulation of fuel combustion for design of internal combustion or diesel engines.
7. Thermal analysis of exhaust system and evaluation of catalyst warm up time, catalytic conversion efficiency, and exhaust surface temperatures.
8. Estimation of component temperature through application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools.
An Automotive Design Engineer
Simple. They design, test, and improve automotive parts, bodies, and engines.
You could Design every and all aspects of the automobile;)
The list goes for types of chemical engineers and their sub sets: petrochemical engineer oil technology engineer plastic and polymer engineer chemical process engineer plant design engineer industrial piping engineer process equipment designer food processing engineer mineral process engineer

The correct term is Automotive Engineer. What they do is help design cars and build them. They also try to think of new ways to make cars more environmentally friendly.
· Dairy Engineer · Design Engineer · Drafting Engineer
Chemical process engineers study and design synthetic materials such as biofuels. These engineers also develop effective practices to turn raw materials into usable goods such as toiletries, cosmetics, automotive applications, paint, even edible coatings for fruit and vegetables.
Chemical engineers can do things ranging from design equipment to supervising manufacturing activities. To be a chemical engineer you need knowledge in chemistry, mathematics, and mechanical and electrical engineering.
Varias types of jobs like a mechanical project engineer, mechanical design engineer, mechanical engineer & any other sectors - Aeronautics Engineering, Automotive engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering etc.
