They are similar. The greenhouse effect is more of what causes global warming. The greenhouse effect is a build up of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the upper atmosphere. This (mostly) carbon dioxide (CO2) acts similarly to the glass roof of a green house. Light passes through CO2 (because it's a clear gas) and hits the ground. The atoms in the ground absorb light, and some of their electrons jump to higher energy electron shells. Later, these same electrons fall back to their original positions, or stable state, and re-radiate heat energy (well it's really infrared light, but that translated into heat when it hits something). Under normal conditions, most of this infrared light can escape the atmosphere. However, carbon dioxide happens to be one of the substances that reflects infrared light. This traps heat in the earth, preventing it from escaping into space, and heating up the earth.

While above is the greenhouse effect, global warming is the result of the greenhouse effect. Global warming is basically the heating of the earth on a world wide scale. This will damage environments, alter oceanic currents, kill many animal species and alter our air currents.

Depending on where you live, you could experience more snow, or extreme drought. In New York, we have had more snow than I can ever remember because warmer ground actually increases the chance of snow. You see upward air drafts, caused by relatively warm air, lift evaporated water high into the atmosphere, where it undergoes adiabatic expansion and cools. As it cools, it sublimes to form snow. Global warming causes more warm upward air-drafts, therefore causing more snow. This is why global warming is now being called global climate change, because it does not necessarily make certain areas warmer, due to changes in air and water currents.

The greenhouse effect is the way the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere hold in the sun's heat and keep the earth warm. The earth's carbon cycle has been keeping this balanced for millions of years.

The enhanced greenhouse effect (or accelerated greenhouse effect) is the warming effect caused by all the extragreenhouse gases put into the atmosphere in the past 200 years by burning fossil fuels. This carbon had been safely stored underground for millions of years.

Global warming is the warming of the earth because of this enhanced greenhouse effect.

A greenhouse allows heat from the sun to to get in but not get out. Prior to the massive amount of greenhouse gases that we now have in the air much of the sun's heat was able to reflect back into space. However now the greenhouse gases are holding onto the heat that would normally be reflected and there is also less reflection. This is resulting in the whole atmosphere heating up. This is called the "greenhouse effect".

So the greenhouse effect, the warming of the atmosphere, is causing global warming, the warming of the planet.

A:The greenhouse effect is the buildup of chemicals in the atmosphere which trap in heat, global warming is the result of the greenhouse effect and other factors.

Light enters the atmosphere and warms the surface of the Earth. Some of that heat is then radiated back toward space. The green house effect is caused by a layer of gases. This layer reflects some of the radiated heat back to Earth.

A:Global warming is a slow and consistent increase in the average temperature of the planet. Mainstream scientific thought is that an increase in the greenhouse gas in the atmosphere is causing less heat to be radiated off. Thus, warming the Earth.

Some other scientists have argued that the 'warming' trend is actually the completion of the last ice-age.

A greenhouse is a garden shed with walls and roof made of glass, to grow fruit and vegetables in cold countries. The sun heats up the air inside which stays warm.

The greenhouse effect means the atmosphere of the earth which is being filled up with more and more greenhouse gases (water vapor, methane, carbon dioxide etc). These gases trap the sun's heat in the atmosphere making the earth slowly become hotter.

A global increase of 3 degrees Celsius would mean catastrophic dangers for animals and humans.

The normal greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenom that occurs when atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations are in the range of 260-280 parts per million (ppm), thereby maintaining a comfortable global climate suitable for human existence.

The atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration has in recent time risen beyond 380 ppm, and is rising at an exponential rate. Since carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, this rise is resulting in global warming and climate change.

Scientists say that the difference between the normal greenhouse effect and the effect that is leading for global warming is that the recent increase in carbon dioxide concentrations is a direct result of human activities, such as burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas), as well as deforestation and cement manufacture.

Yes, greenhouse gases are actual gases in the atmosphere, like carbon dioxide and methane. Global warming means that the temperature all around the world is rising. The connection between them is that the extra build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is causing global warming. But they are two very different things.

The increase of the greenhouse effect worldwide causes what was called global warming. At the present time global warming is more frequently called global climate change as the effects may be more complex (from the human point of view) than simple warming. Some areas may be warmer, some colder, some wetter and some drier as changes to ocean currents and air currents modify the distribution of heat and moisure around the world.

Greenhouse effect is natural and has kept the earth habitable for millions of years. Global warming is being caused by the enhanced (or accelerated) greenhouse effect which is the result of excess levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, caused by deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas).

The natural greenhouse effect has kept the planet warm enough for life for millions of years. Enough greenhouse gases in the atmosphere capture heat to balance the temperature. When man started adding greenhouse gases to the atmosphere this meant that more heat was being captured. This was the enhanced (or accelerated) greenhouse effect which is causing global warming
