Your fences should be a minimum of 6 feet, taller if they offer a foothold to the dog, eg. horizontal ridges or mesh. Springers will jump 5 feet easily and, with a toehold, will scramble higher. Generally, a 6' fence with a taller hedge behind it will be enough to deter them from escaping, unless attracted by something visible like poultry or cats on the other side.
