i would say that 7.5 is probably normal for most houses built in the 50's 60's 70's. Newer houses will usually have higher ceilings of 8, 9 or even 10 feet. Some older houses also usually have higher ceilings.
standards vary. generally speaking high ceilings are considered a luxury standard. many common early 20th century houses had 10 and 12 ft or higher ceilings. today 8 feet is a basic standard while 9 or 10ft is more of a luxury standard and of course they can be higher.
