For absolute height above sea level, Mount Everest is the highest mountain. As measured from a land base, it would be Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. As measured from the center of the Earth, the Andean mountain Chimborazo has the highest point.

The overall highest mountain on Earth is Mauna Kea in Hawaii which has its base beneath the Pacific Ocean. This volcano rises to 10203 meters from the sea floor, whereas Mount Everest is the highest mountain on land at 8848 meters.
