How do you change the water pump on a 1997 chevy malibu?
Water pumps on this engine, as far as I know, are internal. There is a water pump housing that looks like most conventional water pumps. The part you replace is inside the housing, an impeller more or less. Since the same housing is used it is common for owners to accuse mechanics of charging them for parts not replaced. Many mechanics thouroughly clean the housing in order to prevent this. If I remember correctly, remove the pump housing just as you normally would. I believe there are 3 bolts that hold the impeller in place. remove and install new. Hope it helps.
