What would happen if the orangutan becomes extinct?

Oranutans are not yet extinct although they are endangered. If they were to become extinct, we would lose a unique species which is related to our own (being a primate) and which is relatively intelligent. The damage in this case is not tangible, but more of an abstract nature. We don't actually need orangutans, still, it would be a shame to lose them. They are interesting.

Orangutans are a "keystone" species for conservation. The number of orangutan is declining very fast and soon it will face the possible extinction from this planet. They play an important part in forest regeneration through the fruits and seeds they eat. Their disappearance may represent the loss of thousands of species of plants and animals within that ecosystem. This is such a sad ending for one of the most intelligent animal ever to sat foot on earth.

Our greed is mainly the reason why orangutan is losing it's place here on earth.

Orangutans are frugivores and play a vital role in the dispersal of seeds over a huge area. If orangutans were to disappear, so would several tree species, especially those with larger seeds. They are currently listed as critically endangered by the World Wildlife Fund.

Then the whole ecosystem will collapse. If the orangutans die out then the animals that eat them die, and the animals the the orangutans eat will over populate and die and so on and so on.
