What is the importance behind the pledge of allegience?

The importance of the Pledge is excactly that. It's your swearing allegience to the United States and what it stands for. A verbal expression of love of country, of your willingness to lay down your life and honor for that country. It's important for the citizens to feel this so that the country can survive its inner turmoils and foreign attacks. No matter the differences of the citizens, if they have a common love of country the country can survive most anything. I think that the citizens of the U.S, have gotten away from teaching that in the last forty years and are reaping the consequences now. I hope that answers your question.
