is where the cell is when it is preparing for cell division. Therefore the purpose of interphase

is to prepare the cell for division. During interphase,

the cell goes through three stages; the G1, S Phase and G2. This is the longest part of the cycle.

Interphase primarily serves to ready the cell for mitosis. Also, interphase can help to keep bad cells, or dangerous ones, from going through cell reproduction. This is achieved through a serious of "checkpoints" that usually stop unhealthy cells, like cancerous ones.
