The "island of stability" comes from the shape the heavier elements projected stability makes on a 3D graph. See links below.

The general trend of the elements is that as they get heavier (atomic number) stability decreases, but scientists have found that some elements will become more stable if they have a "magic number" of protons and neutrons. The island of stability is the more stable heavy isotopes because of the "magic numbers". Some think the number of neutrons and protons leads to a spherical-shaped nuclei, which leads to stability.

How is the modern periodic table different from the first periodic table?

when the periodic table was first made, it only had the basic elements eg. hydrogen, oxygen, etc. Now with scientist finding more elements and creating them eg. americum, einstienium or europium, there are more elements than ever before. An element only has to exist for 2 seconds before they put it on the periodic table.

How do substances combine to form mixtures?

A chemical substance is a material with a specific chemical compound. A common example of a chemical substance is pure water; it has the same properties and the same ratioof hydrogen to oxygen whether it is isolated from a river or made in a laboratory. Some typical chemical substances are diamond, gold, salt (sodium chloride) and sugar (sucrose). Generally, chemical substances exist as a solid, liquid, or gas, and may change between these phases of matter with changes intemperature or pressure. Chemical reactions convert one chemical substance into another. Forms of energy, such as light and heat, are not considered to be matter, and thus they are not "substances" in this regard.

Does evil help to cause suffering?

The description of something as evil, or not, is governed by the values of the one who is considering the problem. Suffering is as natural as living and can claim no religious adherents, just as a chemical reaction has no regard for the heat or cold it generates, as long as its chemical reaction is completed. As with evolution it has no way of evaluating whether it is good or bad. Every act that is seen as evil by someone, offers a benefit for someone else no matter how shallow we may regard that gain.
