I know some carpenters who make in excess of 100k a year contracting. Most of the moneys in having your own business or in industrial sectors
I am a fifth generation carpenter and spent twenty five years working as a carpenter (I am now a building inspector). I love my trade and only left it for health reasons.
Carpentry requires a nice combination of physical activity, dexterity, ingenuity and skill. It is a very practical and satisfying trade.
A young person entering the trade should be sure to take OH&S seriously though as, there is potential to injure yourself or inflict RSI.
I can't think of a single bad thing. Carpentry can be satisfying, wonderfully relaxing, and you are usually making something that people appreciate, if not love.
