....over the rainbow, that's where Oz is located! Inside the imagination of Dorothy Gale's subconscious mind. Or, a dream. I think it was supposed to be a dream because people soon asked if you dreamed in color and the Oz portion of the film was the only part in color.

The great Kansas prairies as depicted by expert set design is one of the places where the story 'The Wizard of Oz' takes place. Nothing more specific than that is given in the original 1900 book edition by author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 6, 1919]. The beloved 1939 movie version respects the book's setting. But the filming wasn't carried out in Kansas. Instead, the entire movie was filmed on a studio set.

Over the rainbow and at the end of the Yellow Brick Roadis where the Emerald City is found in the beloved 1939 movie 'The Wizard of Oz'. It's at one end of the road. At the other is the Blue Munchkin country that's under the rule of the Wicked Witch of the East until her sudden, unexpected death.

Kansas and the Land of Oz are the settings for "The Wizard of Oz."

Specifically, the action in the original 1900 book edition and in the beloved 1939 film version begins and ends in rural Kansas. This is where Dorothy Gale lives with her pet dog Toto and with her Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. In between are her adventures over the rainbow and into the color-coded countries of the Munchkins, Quadlings and Winkies in the beautiful, enchanted, magical Land of Oz.

Both the original book by author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 5, 1919], and the posthumous 1939 film version, are set in three locations: Uncle Henry's and Aunt Em's farmhouse in the middle of the great plains in the state of Kansas; the lands of Oz; and the environs of Omaha, Nebraska. Most of the action, in the lands of Oz, takes place in the Blue Munchkin Country of the East, the Emerald City in the Center, the Red Quadling Country in the South, and the Yellow Winkie Country in the West. The Good Witch of the North appears in the book, when she forms a welcoming committee with three Munchkins to meet Dorothy, and thank her for killing, albeit accidentally, the Wicked Witch of the East. But the Witch's Purple Gillikin Country of the North is the only land in Oz that Dorothy, her dog Toto, and their friends the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion don't visit.

MGM Studios is the acting location of "The Wizard of Oz."

Specifically, the beloved 1939 film version was filmed entirely on the MGM set. The filming took place in the very early years of color and well before the tendency to film on location. But those involved in the filming paid meticulous attention to all the details of acting, costuming, props and sets that modern audiences often find it difficult to believe that every single scene was filmed inside and under set lighting.

What place other than Kansas has lots of tornadoes and therefore could have been the setting for 'The Wizard of Oz'?

Iowa, Nebraska and North and South Dakota are places that have lots of tornadoes and that could have been settings for "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, the bleak life of the Kansas sequences in "The Wizard of Oz" is found in select parts of all of the above-mentioned states. Tornadoes also occur in the Great Plains and Midwestern states mentioned previously. But they take place more often in Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska than either of the Dakotas.

In which city of Kansas does The Wizard of Oz take place?

Neither the movie nor the book on which it is based names Dorothy's hometown. Both only say she is from Kansas. The Wizard says he's in Omaha (in the book), but that is the only town mentioned.

What is the name of the movie that Uncle Henry is in played by Robert Dudley?

If I am not mistaken, Never cared for this genre- Uncle Henry ( a farmer in Kansas) is a character in the film version of (The Wizard of Oz)- okay- sometimes it used to be aired during the Thanksgiving (season). Never thought of it as a holiday film. My guess it seems to take place in the summer, when kids would be off school.
