∙ 13y agoMale Platypuses have ankle spurs on their hind legs through which they can dispense venom composed largely of defensin-like proteins (DLPs), unique to the Platypus. This venom is powerful enough to kill smaller animals, and to cause agonising pain to humans.
Platypuses also dig burrows into riverbanks. These burrows are only large enough for smaller predators to enter, but they do not provide protection from snakes.

∙ 9y agoIt depends on the laws where you live. In the United States for example, it is legal in states such as Nevada and Montana, but is illegal in states such as New York and Florida. Other states will allow them as pets provided that the animal is attended by a veterinarian and the state can verify that the individual platypus has its needs continually met by the owner.
Your best bet is to research the laws of where you reside regarding whether the platypus or any other non-traditional animal can be owned privately as a pet.
