most Christians worship in a church

Another View:

Even though there are so called Christian places of worship (churches, chapels, cathedrals etc.) the only true place of worship that ever existed was the Tabernacle of Congregation, that God instructed Israelites to set up in the desert. It was a movable construction and was carried by them as they traveled, eventually it was upgraded to a Temple, first built by King Solomon. The temple is in ruins now, but even before it was destroyed in 70 AD it became obsolete. Jesus in His conversation with a Samaritan woman said in John 4:23-24 - "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." Many Christians call their church building a place of worship, in the Bible however there is never a mention of church as a building, a church is a group of christian believers, and it's not spiritually tied to any particular piece of real estate. Matthew 18:20 - "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Notice, that Jesus didn't say gather in a building with a steeple and a crucifix, but gather in my name. Now the true temple of God is a living, growing, spiritual building, 2+Corinthian 6:16 - "Ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." Ephesians 2:19-22 - "Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are built together for an habitation of God through the Spirit." Any group of Christians, that have the Holy Spirit, and gather together in the name of Jesus Christ are a church and a temple of the living God, they have Jesus Christ in their midst and that is a place of worship.

Christianity, of various denominations, is the central religion of all of the Americas, Europe, and Australia. In Asia, Russia is mainly Christian, but most of the rest of Asia has Christianity as a minority, while Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism are more prevalent. Christianity is also a minority in the Middle East and North Africa, with Islam dominating these regions (except Israel). The southern part of Africa has a growing Christian population. Some areas of southern Africa have Christianity as a majority, but in other areas it is still a minority.
