It was a 7 overtime college football game with Mississippi and Arkansas 73 68

For professional football, it was a USFL playoff game between the LA Express (quarterbacked by Steve Young) and the Michigan Panthers. The game went into a 4th sudden death overtime periods (that's nearly 8 full quarters total, game lasting nearly 6 hours), when punt returner Mel Grey won the game for the express by returning a Panthers punt for a touchdown; Mel Grey broke his arm in the process.
