What is the max number of babies a couple can adopt or have in sims 1?

In The Sims original game, you are only allowed a maximum of 8 Sims in a household at any one time. Maybe even less than that if your PC can't handle the pressure of the graphics. So a couple can only adopt or give birth to 6 babies at a time. Once one of the babies grows into a Teen and leaves for college or grows into an Adult and moves out, you can then adopt or have another baby to replace that Sim. Make sense? You can keep having more and more babies or adopting more and more children as the teens/adults move out of the household in order to replace them. Of course, once the couple (namely the female) is within 3 days of becoming senior citizens, or already are seniors, they can no longer give birth to a baby, but they can still continue to adopt until the day they die.
