Kelly Clarkson did not write "A Moment Like This." It was written for the winner (her against Justin Guriani) of American Idol by professional writers. Based on that, I'm pretty sure the song is supposed to be about a life-changing event (like winning American Idol), and how that fulfills your wildest dreams (of becoming a singer). It's capturing that moment where you finally made it. With that meaning in mind, I think Kelly really portrayed just that emotion of excitement and joy when she performed "A Moment Like This" upon winning. She was so happy!

I have wondered it myself. I knew the song only from the Dutch singer Rene Froger, who had quite a big hit with it in the Netherlands. However, it seems David Hasselhoff also performed it in Broadway musical Jekyll and Hyde. Finally, I found a version of this song performed by the Moody Blues. The most probable composer for this song is Frank Wildhorn, the composer and director of the Jekkyl and Hyde musical.
