The theme of annabel lee or what Edgar Allan Poe is trying to say is TRUE LOVE CONQUERS ALL. I think that is the theme because it says in the poem that the reason annabel died was because the angels were jealous of the love they had because it was so strong. So the angels killed her by chilling her to death. But it even if she died he never forgot her. And in the poem itself it says that their love was so strong no one or nothing couold ever separate their souls. So even if she died he always had her in his heart and eventually when he died he would meet her in heaven.

Edit:

It depends on which 'theme' you wish to go with. Commonly I use the theme that is the emotion or state of mind that causes the most dramatic shift in mood from the beginning to the end (this works only in narrative poems). The theme would then be envy because envy is what killed Annabel Lee causing a shift in emotion.

Ahh, my favorite poem by Edgar Allan Poe. I have it memorized. It is about a woman named Annabel Lee who was taken away from her lover by a kin of hers. He is devastated and blames the angels for it all. Edgar Allan Poe had an, ummm, interesting take on life.

i think that the theme is undying love. the narrator proclaims his love for Annabel Lee, even though she is deceased. it shows a love so pure, so strong, that even the highest of the angels, the Seraphs, were stricken with envy upon seeing their love. it shows that the angels nor the demons can ever dissever their souls. it also reveals that death can't keep them apart, hence that lying don by her side, in her sepulchre. (Though i am not quite sure if it is inside or just outside) either way, you get what I'm saying

I'm sorry but the above answer is WRONG. First, they gave a topic. A THEME is a meaning equal to life and is more than 1 or 2 words. Here is a theme, jealousy can kill. Jealousy can kill because Annabel Lee because the angels were so jelous of the couples love that they killed Annabel lee.
