When quitting a job, a two-week or 14-day notice is appropriate. This gives the employer time to find someone else to take the position, and allows you to leave in good standing in case you should ever need to return.

∙ 12y agoZERO! Nowadays most all employers and employes are concidered "AT WILL" Meaning they do not even have to have a reason to fire you. And in turn if you don't care about the reference walk away.
Not strictly true. Most employment has a contract. The terms and conditions of the contract include salary, increments, liability, medical, induction, direct and indirect termination as initiated by employer or employee. And many other things. Just remember employment law might well be different where you live. Your union rep or lawyer should be able to explain things.
