Nicolaus Harnoncourt - 1982 Concentus musicus Wien (Teldec)

The Academy of Ancient Music recorded another very good performance.

This question is rather subjective, so I'll put my two cents in as well. I like the more tradtional, faster pace (especially for Kyrie) done by Solti and Herreweghe. If you want crystalline sound quality, go with Herreweghe...it sounds like they're in the room with you. However, some feel his version lacks a certain passion. Solti's version (the live recording on the anniversary of Mozart's death) includes the ritual liturgies (i.e. prayers spoken aloud) and has a huge choir whose presence is really felt in the more aggressive points of the music. Just blows you away. Both use fantastic soloists, so they're pretty much even there. I will say that Auger (Solti) has what I consider a more period approach and enunciations whereas Ruebens' (Herreweghe) voice holds steady with modern inflections, if that makes sense. ;) I'm not trained musician, so it's sometimes hard to put my observations into words.

I think you will have to explain what an 'authentic recording' means to you before anyone can answer this to your satisfaction.

Are there any transposed French Horn parts for Mozarts Requiem?

Probably not. Old orchestral pieces like that usually keep horn parts written in their original keys, and it's up to the player to transpose as needed.

Who later wore the mask after mozarts father in Amadeus and for what purpose?

Salieri wears a mask similar to mozart's father in the movie, and it is used to disguise himself as he asks Mozart to write the Requiem Mass in D minor for him. This plan was a plot to give Salieri fame, as he would obtain credit for the requiem, and it would also tire Mozart mentally so that Salieri could later murder him once the requiem was completed.

What is Mozarts most famous piece besides requiem?

Most likely (though most don't know it) is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Written by Wolfgang when he was 5. I also think Jupiter, his 41st, is rather famous also.
