A dual port 1600 is fine. As long as it is maintained it should have plenty of power for your bug. I frequently takes trips of 600 miles and more in mine.
Yes, but the '72 engine is dual port, while the 69 is single port. Which means tou will need new manifold(s).

These are what we call Kadrons, they are for dual port VW aircooled motors! They run well with small displacment motors where not alot of power is wanted.
