Lent is a long event. It takes about forty days.It starts during the Ash Wednesday. There is no 3 days before lent that is connected in this event, and the 3 days only meant to the Good Friday to the Easter Sunday.
The only "three before lent" that I know of is, under the old calender, there were three Sundays before Lent which are Septuagesima, Sexagesima, and Quinquagesima which were sort of a "pre-Lent" or preparatory for Lent, the Gloria in excelsis, Alleluia, and Te Deum are not said, and purple vestments are worn, as in Lent.
The day before the start of Lent (the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday) can be called Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday.

In general, the carnival lasts for three days, the days preceding Ash Wednesday. In contrast to Lent, a time of penance and deprivation, these days are called "fat", especially the Tuesday (Fat Tuesday, also known by its French name Mardi Gras), the last day before Lent.In the United States, the term is synonymous with Mardi Gras Carnival.
No ash Wednesday is exactly 40 days before Easter, it marks the beginning of lent and Easter marks the end of lent. lent is when you are asked to give something you love up for 40 days
There is no Biblical significance to the day before Lent begins. The 40 days of Lent represent the 40 days Our Lord spent in the desert fasting and praying before he began his public life. It should be a time of fasting and praying for us, also. The day before, 'Mardi Gras,' is sometimes considered a day to go to excess on food and alcohol before the penance of Lent begins.
Because it is 40 days before the lent
Lent starts on Ash Wednesday, which is 40 days before Easter Sunday, not including Sundays. Jesus fasted for 40 days, so that is where the number comes from.
