The Jungle cat, otherwise known as the "swamp lynx", is a medium-sized cat that is found in savannahs and dry tropical forests (not rainforests), usually in West and Central Asia. However, the Jungle cat is not large and is not spotted.
The Jaguar is probably the only big spotted cat that prefers a forested (including rainforest) habitat, although can be found in the open.
Every kind of big cat has a different scientific name. Even different varieties within the same species, such as African Lion (Panthera Leo) and the Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica).
However, Panthera refers to a genus of the family Felidae(all cats) and consists of the tiger, the lion, the jaguar, and the leopard. Hope that helps.
