The chemical involved in the transmission of a neuralsignal is called a neurotransmitter.

A neural impulse is technically just the firing of the neuron, the action potential, an all-or-nothing spike, not the transmission of the signal across the synapse, nor down the dendrite & soma via electrotonic conduction in a graded response.
