aorta; it pumps blood to all parts of the body except the lungs (breaks into smaller arteries that go to each segment of the body)
left anterior descending artery, supplies oxygenated blood to the left atrium
The Aorta
The aorta is the large artery that carries blood from the left side of the heart. From there, blood is transported through the systemic circulation.
Aorta is the main and largest artery. It carries blood out of the heart from the left ventricle to the rest of the body.

The aorta. It is also the body's largest artery.

the carotid arteryThe main blood vessels that conduct blood to the head are the paired carotid arteries which is what you feel when you check the pulse in your neck.
The superior and inferior vena cava deliver blood from the body into the heart, the aorta brings blood from the heart into the rest of the body.

There are various kinds of blood vessels: *Arteries **Aorta (the largest artery, carries blood out of the heart) **Branches of the aorta ***carotid artery ***subclavian artery ***celiac trunk ***mesenteric arteries ***renal artery ***iliac artery * Veins **Large collecting vessels ***subclavian vein ***jugular vein ***renal vein ***iliac vein **Venae cavae (the 2 largest veins, carry blood into the heart)
It needs to distribute blood to the systemic circuit. For this reason it needs to be very large in order to distribute huge amounts of blood at once.
