I don't think the banshee was mentioned by name. By the way, Professor Lockhart didn't get rid of any banshee; he simply claimed credit for deeds done by other wizards and witches.

Gilderoy Lockhart first appeared in the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Chapter 6 in the second book is called "Gilderoy Lockhart" in which Harry and his classmates have their first lesson with Gilderoy Lockhart, who is their new "Defence against the Dark Arts" teacher.
The title of chapter 6 in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is Gilderoy Lockhart, in which the character Ron receives a Howler by owl post. The main characters also participate in Lockhart's first defense against the dark arts class.

It was Ron's wand in the second book, when Lockhart tried to use it. In the final battle, Voldemort's curse bounded back on himself, because it collided with Harry's spell.
