This was called "DDay" one of the largest invasion fleets in history. An interesting note to this is that the Germans knew there would be an invasion, but didn't know where or when. So, to fool them the British and Americans made a phony base with fake military support and supplies to make the Germans think they were going to land somewhere else than where they landed. When the invasion did take place it took Hitler several hours to give orders to the troops in France.
