Elijah
More than any other prophet Jeremiah expressed grief at the unrepentant and stubborn nature of his people. He also saw the coming judgment and grieved over the great disaster this was to be for the nation and the destruction, heartache and pain and death involved. Mainly due to Jeremiah 9:1. Mainly Jeremiah warned the people repeatedly to repent from their sins, or god would punish them severally , But they refused to hear the warning of Jeremiah the prophet, and in the end the Jews-were taken as slaves again to Babylon.
Nineveh was the capital of the Assyrian empire. The ruins of Nineveh are on the outskirts of modern day Mosul in Iraq. Archaeologists have done quite a bit of work in these ruins. The walls of Nineveh enclose an area of perhaps 2 square miles. They are impressive, and many bits and pieces are now in museums in places like London and Berlin. So, the Ninevites were Assyrian residents of their capital city. At the time depicted in the Book of Jonah, Nineveh was the capital of the empire that posed the greatest threat to the northern Kingdom of Israel, and the idea that God cared about the Ninevites and would give them an opportunity to repent was, to say the least, controversial.
Amos the prophet was against idol worship , and warned Israel many times like the prophets did.

The resolution of the story of Jonah in the Bible occurs when Jonah follows God's command to preach to the people of Nineveh, who ultimately repent and are spared from destruction. Despite Jonah's initial resistance and disobedience, he learns about God's mercy and compassion through the events that unfold in Nineveh.
