David Bowie's character in Labyrinth is named Jareth.
He changed it from Jones to avoid being confused with the Monkees singer... He took the name Bowie from the knife... You'd have to ask him why... Better than David Swiss Army though...
When he was born in England in 1947, his birth name was David Robert Jones. But as he began to establish his career as an entertainer, using the name Davie Jones, he found that his chosen stage name was was very similar to Davy Jones of the Monkees, and could be a potential source of confusion for fans. He decided a new last name was needed and he chose Bowie, after frontiersman Jim Bowie, and the famous Bowie knife.
The film "The Inglorious Bastards" has nothing to do with Tarantino movie. He just took the name and used it as a reference like he does in most of his movies.

it was intentionally done. Not entirely sure if they had any comical reasons behind it, however what i know for certain is the main reason for the change is to distinguish it from an old Italian war movie made in 1977 called "Inglorious Bastards". Relative factual/comical note: In Australia an old burger restaurant was named Burger King, hence the famous American burger restaurant's name has been replaced in the country to "Hungry Jacks".

No. The name in the movie was given to them by the Germans. There's was no such unit, Quinten Tarintino is just creative like that. The movie is not based on a true story, don't want to give away the movie, but Hitler dies. And if Hitler died in a theater in the middle of France, trust me, the history books would indicate that. Sorry, but the only thing you'll find under "Inglorious Bastards" when you google is the movie...but the 'Bear Jew' is pretty hot
