Proof of UFO sightings date back to our cave-dwelling ancestors. Crude drawings found on cave walls show flying objects and small humaniods with what looks like space suits. Sightings were recorded in 4th century China. UFO activity was recorded in Rome, 218 BC and in 1561 over Germany.

It depends on your definition of recorded. There are drawings of UFO looking objects on the walls of caves, ancient coins and midevil art. There was one or two cases in the late 1800's. After that, Roswell set the stage for modern day sightings.
