After the Speaker of the House who assumes the duties of US President if both the President and Vice-President are unable to complete their terms?

When the President dies and the Vice become President he then picks a new Vice, and the cycle continues. Vice -> Pres ---------------------------------------- No, that's not how it works. First off the two never travel together so they can't be killed at the same time, but if the president dies the vice precident takes over and does not appoint a vice. The position remains open. If the vice then dies the next in command takes over. That would be the secretary of state. ---------------------------------------- Actually, after the president dies, the vice president becomes president, and if he dies, then the SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE becomes the new president........ ---------------------------------------- To add to the correction, the first paragraph above is correct. The second paragraph (the first correction) is very, very wrong. First of all, the President and VP could easily die at the same time. They could be assassinated at the same function, a nuclear attack could kill both, etc. Secondly, if the President dies, the VP becomes President and appoints a new VP, who then is confirmed by a majority of both houses of Congress. It is only if both the President and the VP die at the same time, or the President dies and then the VP who became President dies before he has appointed a new VP, that the Speaker of the House becomes President. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the last guy was right, the president pro tempore becomes president after the speaker of the house...comes secretary of state, treasury, defense, attorney general, secretary of interior, agriculture, commerce, labor....finally a couple of people later it ends with the secretary of homeland security...

The constitution gives congress the right to impeach what?

According to the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 2, Clause 5): "The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment." Remember that an impeachment is only a formal accusation of wrongdoing; when a government official is impeached, his case is then tried in the Senate. Congress can check the president by refusing to appropriate money for an executive department. It can also refuse to authorize the creation of new administrative agencies and can abolish existing ones. The senate can reject a treaty made by the president. (A two-thirds vote of the senate is required to ratify a treaty.) It can reject presidential appointments by a majority vote. The House of Representatives has the power to impeach the president, that is, to charge that official with wrongdoing.

What government body hase the sole right to impeach?

The U.S. House of Representatives.

Why should Obama be impeached?

1. Only the House of Representatives can impeach the President. 2. The president must first break a federal law in order to be impeached. As of right now only two presidents have ever been voted on by the House of Representatives to be impeached and the House voted against it. Unless President Obama breaks a federal law, it is impossible for the House of Representatives to impeach him.

Can we impeach Barack Obama?

The only authority to impeach a President under the law is the USA Senate. However, its a long process, and that is why there is not many impeachments. In our history there has only been 4 impeachments brought against the POTUS. The House of Representatives brings the charge against the President, and then it travels to the Senate. Only the senate has the right to remove a President. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will attend this trial. The Senate may prohibit a President from serving a second term.

Who can remove the president of in India from his office before the expiry of his term?

The President may be removed before the expiry of his/her term through impeachment. A President can be removed for violation of the Constitution. The process may start in either of the two houses of the Parliament. The house initiates the process by levelling the charges against the President. The charges are contained in a notice which has to be signed by at least one quarter of the total members of that house. The notice is sent up to the President and 14 days later, it is taken up for consideration. A resolution to impeach the President has to be passed by a two-third majority of the total members of the originating house. It is then sent to the other house. The other house investigates the charges that have been made. During this process, the President has the right to defend himself/herself through an authorised counsel. If the second house also approves the charges made by two-third majority again, the President stands impeached and is deemed to have vacated his/her office from the date when such a resolution stands passed. Other than impeachment, no other penalty can be given to the President for the violation of the Constitution.

What is checks and balanes?

Checks and balances are a system of counterbalancing in the US government , to make sure that none of the three branches of government takes on too much power. For example the Senate has the right to impeach a decision the president makes and the president has the right to veto or reject a proposed law.

Why The Senate act as the court in the case of impeachments?

The Senate has the right to try a President who has been impeached for "high crimes and misdemenors" because that is how the process was established in the US constitution. The House of Representatives has the responsibility of determining whether to impeach a President. That is the rough equivalent of an inditement in the criminal court system.
