A NAND is is called a NOT-AND gate.It is made by connecting an inverter at the output of an AND gate. This makes the output signal of an AND gate to be inverted. It is also known as a universal gate, whereby other gates can be constructed using booleean algebra and De Morgan's theorem of simplification.
