The word 'lisp,' is an English and Middle English word which originated around 1100 CE. In Middle English, the word was known as 'lipsen.' It describes an unorthodox way of speaking, or a speech impediment. The letters s and z are pronounced the same, and are often accompanied by the 'th' sound before the letter.
