To directly answer the question, there are about 300 million dogs on earth (as a very rough, lower estimate---it may be as many as 500-800 million), about 25% of which live in "First World" countries like the USA. A good number of American dogs, probably at least half, are well cared for. However, almost every dog in the developing world is not well taken care of. They are generally not thought of in the same way as pets, and besides, if you have no money for your children's care or food for your family, do you think you'll pay to deworm and flea treat your dog? In fact, unvaccinated domestic dogs are responsible for about 50,000 human cases of rabies worldwide every year, almost all of which are in developing countries.
There are no real stats out there that is 100%, but it is proven that in today's modern age more and more people are having pets (dogs are more popular and cats come in second, but just as wonderful a pet) because the human race is something you want to get away from once in awhile. More and more younger people (25 +) are getting dogs. Some people who don't have children or even people whose children have left home replace the emptiness with a dog or two. According to the stats re veterinary care there are a lot of dogs out there and cats are becoming more popular.
and most people who own there dogs should love them <3
Estimates of animal abuse vary, but as many as one hundred million animals are abused every year in the United States alone. This includes all "domesticated" and "penned" animals, such as chickens, dogs and cats, horses, pigs, etc.
Conservative estimates state there are between 240 million and 260 million domesticated dogs in the United States, with as many as 75 million abuse cases each year. This works out to roughly 85% of all domesticated dogs suffering some form of abuse, whether that's food deprivation, physical abuse (beating), or breeding abuse (i.e., caging animals 24 hours a day except for mating).
No one really knows how many dogs are abused every year, but if you know of an animal - ANY animal - suffering some form of legitimate abuse, please contact the local authorities and/or nearby animal shelters and animal rights advocates.
the owner is not really the owner the owner of a dog is it self because stray dogs and wolves are them same type of animal and they look artier there selves if its a cross dog then its gonna need allot of attention so that's your answer
53% of ALL animals are abused so that would include cats, dogs, rabbits, horses, i assume that dogs would take up about 20% of that.

No exact statistics are available though several surveys claim that dog owners are more content and live longer than people that do not own dogs.
