What is the problem when a car goes into reverse and won't go into drive?
If you can't physically shift the vehicle into drive, then the linkage going to the transmission may be binding up. If you can shift the gear selector into drive, but the vehicle won't move forward, then you may be very low on fluid. Many times when a transmission gets very low, it will only move in reverse and not forward in any gear. Check the fluid level and top it off if it is low. If the transmission is already full, then you may have more serious damage that may require a trans shop.
My 2001 mercury cougar won't go anywhere when i put it into drive it will back up when in reverse but won't go when in drive. What is wrong with it?
For the Reverse problem, you could have low transmission fluid, or a bad transmission. For starting in drive, just about every modern car will not start when the transmission is in gear. They will only start in Park or Neutral. This is a safety feature to prevent the car from taking off into someone or something when started.
Your car will not go forward in drive It will go in reverse it will drive in the low gears but it will not go forward in drive It just jerks What do you think it is?

What can the problem be the drivetrain wont pull in reverse but will pull fordword and will it hurt anything if you drive it to where you can get repairs or repair it your self?
It seems that you have a cracked sunshell inside the transmission. Unless you are able to rebuild it yourself, you will need to have a transmission shop repair it for you. They will have to tear it down and see if there is other damage. You should be able to drive it to a repair facility as long as you don't have to drive a great distance.
Why wont Mazda 1995 626 4cyl go when it is in drive or reverse it shifs into drive but doesnt go and the over drive light flashes on and off?

What is wrong with a 2006 ford Taurus when your automatic stick just goes back and forth and you cannot drive it it wont go in reverse or drive it stays in park?
This is a VERY DANGEROUS condition. I would take the car immediately to the Dealer and see if they don't have a Service Bulletin on this problem. If they don't, then contact your regional GM Service Rep and see if they wont fix this problem for free....... they really should unless you broke something intentionally. TommyTrouble
When you put your car in reverse it will not go in reverse but in drive it is okay Is that a serious and costly job Is that a sign of the transmission needing to be rebuilt?
Why wont automatic transmissionon my 97 Plymouth breeze shift out of low.it goes into reverse and drives ok but wont shift out of low.?
try having the transmission flushed out sounds like you got water in your tranny..also ifit is rear wheeled drive check the output driveshaft seal. if its gone bad that's prob how the water got in.... same thing happend to my mustang...... she hesitated going into drive........ i drained it and put new filter, driveshaft seal and fluid and she ran fine after that Neal
