That process is known as "recall." A petition is passed around to the citizens who could vote for that politician and if a certain number of voters sign the petition for a recall vote, the question of whether the politician should be recalled or not then goes on the ballot. An election is held whereby a majority of the voters can remove the politician from office before his/her term is up.
