DEATH!!! Answer: There can be no single punishment for any crime. In the case of homicide a difference is recognized between: * premeditated * accidental * protecting one's family * state sanctioned * suicide * as a result of diminished mental capacity
* euthanasia * and many more. If this were not the case, and all homicides resulted in a death penalty, the executioner's job would result in his own subsequent execution.
The Best punishment would have to be death, deprive the murderer of his/her life just as he/she deprived the victim of their life..
Giving them life in prison without parole only gives them 3 hot meals a day, cable tv, free college courses,Video Games, daily visits to the prison gym,a paying job in the prison system, weekly visits to the prison store to buy candy, sodas, chips, books, games, food items, radios,CD's,art supplies, musical instrumants, ect.. Many murderers have it better in prison than they had it before they went to prison.
Not to mention it would save the US taxpayers billions and billions of dollars each year by not having to warehouse these murderers for the rest of their lives while their victims lie in the cold ground and rot.
Homicide is justified when it prevents greater harm to innocents but the concept of justifiable homicide in criminal law stands on the dividing line between an excuse, justification and exculpation. The dictionary defines justifiable homicide:
n. a killing without evil or criminal intent, for which there can be no blame, such as self-defense to protect oneself or to protect another, or the shooting by a law enforcement officer in fulfilling his/her duties. This is not to be confused with a crime of passion or claim of diminished capacity which refer to defenses aimed at reducing the penalty or degree of crime.
In such cases there is no jail for the defendant.

The Illinois criminal defense lawyers at our firm, Zuelke & Byrd, L.L.C., have defended people against murder and reckless homicide charges. The stakes in such cases are high and the punishment severe. A conviction for a charge of first degree murder will lead to a sentence of many years in prison, or even life without parole or the death penalty. A conviction for attempted murder, second degree murder (manslaughter), or reckless homicide or involuntary manslaughter can also result in a lengthy prison sentence. It is critical to have a skilled attorney who has experience defending people against homicide charges. http://www.auroracriminallawyer.com/PracticeAreas/Murder-Reckless-Homicide.asp
