What is the purpose of the Parathyroid Glands?
There are four tiny parathyroid glands which are located on the posterior side of the thyroid gland which have two on each lobe. The parathyroid glands secrete parathyroid hormones which regulates the amount of calcium in the blood. If the calcium is too low, parathyroid hormone moves calcium from the bones to the blood. Parathyroid hormone actually has an opposite action from that of calcitonin secreted by the thyroid gland.
Hormones are a kind of biochemical messengers. Most hormones are chemical substances produced by specialized tissue formations called endocrine glands. The substances are secreted directly into the bloodstream, other body fluids, or into adjacent tissues. The purpose of hormones is to regulate metabolic activity of some other organs or tissues of the body.
Three different ways hormones act:
1. Alter the rate of synthesis of your cellular protein.
2. Change the rate of enzyme activity.
3. Change the rate of transport of nutrients through the cell wall.
glands secrete bodily fluids. The type of secretion depends on type and function of the gland.
Ex. sebaceous glands secrete sebum, salivary glands secrete saliva
Regulates metabolism mostly. Produces Hormones...most important are T4, T3 and Calotonin.
The sweat glands produce sweat, as the name implies. Sweat cools the body down during physical exercise, preventing heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
help the body cope with stress
The main purpose of a sweat gland is to cool the body.
Sweat gland.
sweat glands :are small tubular structures of the skin that produce sweat. sweat duct :a small duct that conveys sweat from a sudoriferous gland to the surface of the skin.
Melanin is not a sweat gland. Is is the chemical that provides skin color.
One of the appendages of the skin is the cuteneous gland. it has two categories which are the sudoriferous(sweat) gland and sebaceous(oil) gland. the causes of sweat under arms is because of its sweat gland.
It's just called a sweat gland....another name for them are sebaceous glands
Because it removes waste material by doing sweating
Oil gland
In your dermis.
skin
The opening is called a sweat pore: the tube that comes from the sweat gland to the surface of the skin. The sweat gland is in the hypodermis and the tube travels up through the dermis through the epidermis to the surface.
