soap. you make soap

I don't know what on earth makes you think lye and water make soap. Lye, water and FAT make soap, and even then, only if you let them sit for a few MONTHS or cook forever and stir the whole time. Lye and water make a corrosive. They produce heat and noxious fumes. NONE of this actually answers the question. They asked for a chemical reaction you nitwit, not the end product. MORON. Sorry to the person asking. I know what happens but cannot name the chemical reaction without googling it. If it's going to be googled, you can do that yourself. Just don't listen to morons like that who think lye and water make soap.

sodium acetate and water are formed.

What happens if you mix distilled water and sodium hydroxide?

Sodium hydroxide simply becomes ionized in water, no reaction will occur. And the concentration of NaOH will be reduced, if enough water is added.

Does sodium hydroxide release protons when added to water?

No. Sodium hydroxide releases hydroxide ions, which actually take protons out of the solution. This qualifies sodium hydroxide as a base.

What happens when you mix water and sodium?

you get salt water which is called sodium hydroxide You get sodium hydroxide as stated above but NOT salt water as this is sodium chloride in water which has the formula NaCl and not NaOH.

Name the solution formed when sodium is added to water?

sodium hydroxide solution

Is copper soluble in sodium hydroxide?

Metallic copper does not react with sodium hydroxide. But if sodium hydroxide is added into a solution of copper ions, it would form Copper(II) Hydroxide. It is a precipitate which is insoluble in water.

Since Sodium Hydroxide is a base and hydrochloric acid is an acid, you will make water and sodium chloride.

What happens after sodium comes in contact with water?

when sodium comes in contact with water,it results in an exothermic reaction to give sodium hydroxide.
