We went to see Harry Potter Deathly Hallows in IMAX today and were shocked to see parents had brought YOUNG children to see it - five and under. This is not a kids movie! As the characters in the books matured, so did the plotline. There are numerous very scary, violent scenes (including torture, murder and an attack by Voldemort's snake) which would give any youngster nightmares. Also, I just don't think it would be very interesting for a child under the age of 12 or 13. It's very bleak and focuses on the hopelessness and tragedy felt by Harry and those around him and these themes are lost on the younger set. Great film for older Potter fans, but leave the kiddies at home.

Also, in some bookstores, they can be found under fiction, ages 9-12.

Yes, I agree. There isn't anything bad about it, but there are some pretty big words. When I was young, my sister read me the first chapter.
