As rising superheated mantle rock nears the surface due to tectonic forces, the compression pressure from surrounding rock decreases, causes it to melt, forming magma. It's called decompression melting. The high pressures that keep the superhot mantle rock from melting in the first place are called lithostatic pressures.

Does pressure play a role in the formation of metamorphic rocks?

No it does not. They can only be converted from Sedimentary to Metamorphic be heat and pressure. Metamorphic can also convert to different higher great as the temperature and pressure increases. examsples are schist to gneiss.

What mechanism is most responsible for generating the internal heat of lo that drives the volcanic activity?

The heat responsible for volcanic activity is essentially the magma within the mantle. Plate tectonics also a play a hug role in the formation of volcanoes, such as the plate boundary of which it was formed. The tectonics of the environment of which this volcano was derived will determine the way in which the magma/heat is formed.
