Savage arms springfield 187J 22 with Springfield scope I can't find the SN Anyone know where to look?
That will depend on what kind of a Springfield Arms rifle it is. The "real" Springfield Arms was founded in 1850, manufactured revolvers that infringed on patents held by Colt, and closed within a year. In the early 1900's, Crescent Arms used the name on a line of inexpensive shotguns. After Savage/Stevens purchased Crescent, the Springfield Arms name was also used on several bolt action and autoloading .22 rifles. The name was discontinued in 1948.
The model number should be stamped near the patent date. I would guess it is probably a 5000, 5100, or 311 (all the same gun but different years of production). If it were a collectable, re-finishing would dimish the value, but since it's not, it will be valued as a shooter. Probably $200-$250 at retail.
Where can you find information about a 16 gauge Springfield Arms Company Chicopee Falls Mass USA double barrel shotgun serial T55970?
Contrary to what some believe, Springfield Arms was never a subsidary company of Cresent Arms. Springfeild Arms, like Cresent Arms, were both bought out by Stevens/Savage. Unlike the Cresent, Springfield manufacturing continued after the buy out. Some clarification: Springfield Arms Co was absorbed by Stevens very early, before 1900. Stevens continued to use the Springfield name on certain models of shotgun. Savage absorbed Stevens around 1930 or so, and continued to use the Springfield name…

Why do you think your Springfield Arms shotgun is valuable? You should be able to…
The value of a Savage 745b in very good, clean condition is around $300 retail. These are excellent shooters, as I hunt with one every year, and are a close copy of the auto 5 Browning. They don't have much collectability, but are one of the best hunting shotguns you can have, due to their lightweight receiver. Auto 5 parts won't interchange, but you can get replacement parts through Gun Parts Corp.
First you have to determine what kind of "Springfield" you have. It could be a US military arm from the Springfield Armory dating to sometime before the Civil War or a new sporting arm from Springfield, Inc., but most likely it is a shotgun made by J. Stevens Arms or the Stevens Division of Savage Arms.
