Start by recycling as much as you can. Compost if you have the place to do it. Grow as much food as you can. Don't waste water. Replace your incandescent lighting with modern led or other efficient lights. Cut back on your energy use. Turning off computers and lights and the TV sets when not in use or if not being used for a good reason. There are very few network shows you can justify watching. Get solar hot water and electric panels installed. Some panels are being rented now so there is no " I can't afford it" excuse. It will save you money. Encourage others to do the same. Organize a group of like minded people to help others do the same. Go and insulate peoples homes. Put a insulating cover(s) on properly set hotwater heaters. Learn how to make passive room heaters and "breadbox" solar hot water heaters to supplement your home unit. Put up a windmill to make electricity. Most of all spread the word. Have workshops that help others cut back on waste and power consumption.
Combine your car trips to save gas. Properly inflate your car tires. Bike or walk when you can. Use public transportation.
These are some ways that can help your community but just try to reduce your carbon footprint.
