In general, larger mammals have longer gestation periods. The African Bush Elephant has the longest gestation period at 22 months. Placental mammals have longer gestation periods than marsupials. Some small marsupials have gestation periods of less than two weeks.

The African elephant (Loxodonta Africana), because larger mammals require longer gestation periods, because the young require more of the nutrients given prenatally and so need a longer gestation period.

That is a pretty good rule of thumb and is true most of the time. I'm sure there are exceptions. A sperm whale has a gestation period of almost two years and a mouse has one of about three weeks.
