What is the smallest city in the world?

There are a number of different opinions as to which is the smallest city in the world.

Some people judge the answer to be the city which is smallest by area, while others think that smallest by population is what is the deciding factor.

Even the definition of the word "city" can vary widely between different countries in the world and what some would regard as a city can be a town or even a village to someone else!

The usually accepted smallest city in the world is the Vatican City, which is in Rome, Italy

In the USA and Canada there are some very small communities (200 people or so) with the word 'city' in their title.

Lost Springs in Wyoming, Erving Location, VT , and Sellers, S.C. seem to be other contenders for the smallest city in the world
