The leopards niche in the wild is a very complex yet simple role to understand. The leopard is a nocturnal predator which stalks its prey, with great agility and strength. The leopard, is not picky about its food, it will eat any thing it finds even dead animals, or humans. The leopard will kill and stalk humans in small groups and eat them, seeing them as prey. Humans have started to get angry over this, and have killed numerous leopards with their guns, leaving the carcass of the large cat for scavengers. The leopard will hunt during the day and at night, allowing it too kill numerous types of animals. The leopard will take baths in rivers and can swim. The leopard is hunted by no creature, but hunts many carnivores still. the leopard has many branches from its family such as the Amur leopard, which hunts in cold snowy conditions. This animal does not hibernate, so during the winter, its primary food source is starved deer, and sleeping carnivores. The Amur leopard is almost endangered so many carcasses of deer are left during the winter to become maggot infested.

Highly adaptable but secretive. Males almost entirely solitary, females solitary or with cubs. Males defend territories which they declare by scent marking and roaring. The leopard's roar is a rough rasp, like a handsaw cutting wood, also used by females to attract mates or call cubs. A male's range may be anywhere from 7 to 440 mi2 (18-1,150 km2), depending on prey availability. Females have smaller ranges, 4-190 mi2 (10-480 km2), which often overlap.

The leopard's versatility means that it has managed to survive persecution and the disappearance of large areas of its habitat. They are hunted in parts of their range for their valuable pelts, and are sometimes poisoned or shot in areas where they are considered a threat to livestock. However, the leopard's adaptability and extensive distribution means that it is unlikely to become extinct in the near future, and so it is classified as 'Lower Risk' by IUCN. It is Integrally Protected in Congo. Leopards are extremely flexible in their diet and can eat a range of different foods, from beetles to large antelopes. They tend to prefer medium-sized and small mammals, such as duikers, rodents, reptiles and birds. Leopards rely on thick vegetation to ambush their prey, and in practice their diet often depends on whatever they can catch without moving too far from this cover. In urban areas they have been known to prey on domestic pets, boldly approaching houses and gardens to carry off the animals. Leopards are solitary and territorial animals. They mark their territory by leaving dung, spraying urine and scratching trees at key points in their range, and patrol the area regularly. They are mainly nocturnal, and can cover an area of at least 25 square kilometres in a night. During the day they hide in thick vegetation. Mothers form strong bonds with their offspring, and sometimes remain close to one another even after the youngsters have become fully independent. They are several cases documented where a mother and her independent offspring have apparently cooperated to catch prey, or shared a kill that one has caught independently. Hope its usful
