What is the song Fireflies by Owl City about?
In Owl City
"At the heart of this song there seems to be a yearning or a desire to escape back to childhood innocence. Upon first hearing the song, I was intrigued by the melody and simple lyrics; it wasn't until I actually questioned the artists intent that I began seeing the deeper meaning of Adam Young's lyrics. The song starts by telling us we would "not believe" our eyes, a statement that suggests the song will cover some sort of fantastic occurrence. Then the song progresses into a dream like quality. The speaker actually speaks of fireflies as if they were surrounded by them, but I can't help believe the fireflies are supposed to stand for a specific event or situation. Hence the question: Who would catch fireflies? The answer: innocent children. The song speaks about the innocence of youth and how quickly that innocence escapes us. The chorus says "I'd LIKE to make myself believe" suggesting a desire of something that can not be completely accomplished. The speaker wants to believe earth moves slowly; if he can't believe that simple statement, it must mean the opposite is true--planet Earth spins much too fast. In other words, time passes by much too quickly. The speaker then talks about the desire to remain in that dream trance instead of waking up to reality, because within that dream trance is the innocence of youth. An innocence and naivety that allows a simple act--catching fireflies--to become a magical excursion into a wonderland of possibility and adventure. The point of the song seems to speak about the need to hold onto and embrace (maybe even slip back into) our child hood innocence so the reality of growing up does not completely take away the magic and joy the world has to offer." - Anonymous
Simply put: We are all forced to give up our childhood too soon, and sometimes we just wish we could go back to those simple days.

Fireflies lyrics: You would not believe your eyes If ten million fireflies Lit up the world as I fell asleep Cause they'd fill the open air And leave tear drops everywhere You'd think me rude but I would just stand and stare Chorus: I'd like to make myself believe That planet Ear…th turns slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep Cause everything is never as it seems Cause I'd get a thousand hugs From ten thousand lightning bugs As they tried to teach me how to dance A foxtrot above my head A sock-hop beneath my bed The disco ball is just hanging by a thread (Thread, thread, thread...) Chorus: I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep Cause everything is never as it seems (When I fall asleep) Leave my door open just a crack (Please take me away from here) Cause I feel like such an insomniac (Please take me away from here) Why do I tire of counting sheep (Please take me away from here) When I'm far too tired to fall asleep? To ten million fireflies I'm weird cause I hate goodbyes I got misty eyes as they said farewell (They said farewell) But I'll know where several are If my dreams get real bizarre Cause I saved a few and I keep them in a jar (Jar, jar, jar...) Chorus: I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns, slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep Cause everything is never as it seems (When I fall asleep) I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns, slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep Because my dreams are bursting at the seams. Fireflies was released as a single in July of 2009, and came out in the album 'Ocean Eyes' that September.
There seem to be multiple interpretations of this song, but personally, I think of it as a song about growing up. It speaks of that awkward stage where a person is no longer a child, but is not quite an adult. There is a great deal of nostalgia in the song. The lyrics speak of wanting to slow time d…own and not wanting to let go of the things that bind the singer to his childhood--shown in the keeping of fireflies in a jar. Yet there is hope in the future - in "dreams [that] are bursting at the seams." ( Full Answer )

The song itself can be interpreted as one metaphor, but an example of an individual metaphor is "Because my dreams are bursting at the seams."
When someone is drunk or drugged, their ability to comprehend anything is substantially lowered. The song Fireflies has a simple meaning that can, however, be comprehended by sober people. Fireflies is a reminiscence of Adam Young's childhood. When he was little the summertime air would be so filled… with fireflies that he would ride his bike through them and they would fly away in all directions. The song was inspired by this, and written about the fact that life is never what you expect, and is sometimes even better than your dreams. ( Full Answer )
No. Fireflies is a song about growing up and leaving your childhood behind. For more information, see 'What is fireflies by owl city about?'
The song is about Adam not wanting to let go of his childhood memories but he knows he has to grow up and move on, but he can still be childish thats why he "saves a few and keeps them in a jar." Etc.
It really depends on how much effort you put into it, not what grade you're in.
The fireflies represent your dreams. On a good dream he wants it to move slowly so it will be good for a long time. On bad dreams, he wants them to move quickly and he hates them.
"Fireflies" by Owl City does not have a specific moral purpose. However, it is commonly interpreted as a reminiscence of his childhood.
If you mean the singer "Selena", she died before the song's release. If you mean Selena Gomez, she most likely does since she is very open to the pop genre.
This is, of course, an opinion so it will be very hard to answer. However, Owl City's greatest hits are 'Fireflies' and 'Good Time' (featuring Carly Rae Jepsen). It is quite possible that you will like these. I hope this helps!
Yes. Adam Young (Owl City) refers to fireflies like one refers to humans. E.G. "To ten million fireflies, I'm weird cause I hate goodbyes." In reality, fireflies wouldn't be able to comprehend his emotions, nor would he be able to tell what they think.
The songs are mostly about falling asleep, like "Fireflies" or having to do with getting away from the world. The titles mostly involve things with the sky, such as "Vanilla Twilight", "Rainbow Veins", and "To the Sky" Some are just made for expressing imagination, such as "Hello Seattle".
1. Personification ("As they try to teach me how to dance, Cause I'd get a a thousand hugs") 2. Imagery ("If ten million fireflies lit up the world as I fell asleep, cause they'd fill the open air and leave teardrops everywhere") 3. Rhyme 4. Oxymoron ("Awake when I'm asleep") 5. Simile …("Cause I feel like such an insomniac") 6. Repetition ("Please take me away from here") 7. Paradox ("Far too tired to fall asleep") 8. Hyperbole ("10 million fireflies") ( Full Answer )
No. Many of his songs are love songs, such as Vanilla Twilight, but Fireflies is thought to be about remembering your childhood, and the difficulty of moving on. In the song, Adam Young (Owl City) talks about being insomnia-ridden, perhaps as a result of this situation.

Owl City has many great songs but my favorites are... Hospital Flowers, Hello Seattle, Fireflies, Honey and the Bee, Deer in the Head Lights, Lonely Lullaby, Vanilla Twilight, Dreams Don't Turn to Dust, Plant Life, and Galaxies.
The song "Cave In," off Owl City's album Ocean Eyes , is about feeling the stress and pressure of life. It's about feeling as if you just can't handle another thing. In it, Adam Young expresses the need to get away from it all--but also, the realization that running from his stress doesn't solve an…ything. In the end, he comes to a conclusion that is common throughout his music: holding fast to your dreams and never giving up hope makes life worth living. ( Full Answer )
Owl City is a one-man band and the project of Adam Young. In his parent's basement in Minnesota, he records his music on a keyboard and a computer. In concerts he usually uses a Micro Korg keyboard to play his songs, along with a computer. He creates his own drum loops and everything, all the work i…s done by him. ( Full Answer )
No free drum sheet downloads are available online for Fireflies. I'm sure you can figure out the beat quickly with a bit of practice.
The song "Fireflies" is composed by Adam Young, who is also known as Owl City.
It really depends on what form of repetition you mean. The chorus is repeated multiple times throughout the song, but if you mean vocal repetition, (single words or phrases repeated consecutively) then no. Although there is a slight echo at the end of some verses. However, in the Fireflies Remix (on… the Ocean Eyes Deluxe Version album) there is much vocal repetition. ( Full Answer )
I guess you could consider "To ten million firelies" and "If ten million firelies" and "ten thousand lightning bugs" hypeboles. I mean, imagine how scary ten million fireflies would be :O
the main one is not beliveing in reality and living the surrealisitic life of an insommnicac
Because many people like the tune/voice In it in there opinion, And anyone can listen to it, As most popular singers today sing about drugs And getting drunk ect.
Well, one day, Owl City, (Adam Young) went camping, and saw fireflies. So he decided ti write a song about it. In the song, notice he says "Cuz I feel like such an insomniac" because he suffers from insomnia. Anyways, your actual question, its about imagination, and I guess, sleeping.
A lot of people say a lot of things...But i read HIS blog and he said it was about his home and Minnesoda. (he lives in Minnesoda so...) And when he was a kid and cought fireflies

Yes, Fireflies IS a poetic song. The song was written in metaphors to symbolize the world at a different point of view. For a list of the poetic devices used in the song, search 'What poetic devices are used in Fireflies by Owl City?'.
The Challenger crash in 1986 and God. It is about what he thinks the people in the rocket might have been thinking and he call ong out to god 4 help
Fireflies really has nothing whatsoever to do with transcendentalism, although the song does speak of the beauty in nature (the fireflies).
'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs From ten thousand lightning bugs As they tried to teach me how to dance A foxtrot above my head A sock hop beneath my bed
"You would not believe your eyes if 10 million fireflies lit up the world as I feel asleep. 'Cos they'd fill the open air and leave teardrops everywhere. You'd think me rude but I would just stand and stare."
