When something is adapted to their ecosystem, that means that it has developed a way of living in their ecosystem. Some adaptions of sharks:

  • Their skin. The jelly like material extructed from numerous ampullary organs of lorenzini located in this area. Amoullae contain electroreceptors that detect electrical fields generated by living organisms. The ability to sense electrical fields allows the shark to detect predators, prey, mate and also to navigate.
  • They have dermal denticles which give less drag when swimming,
  • They have developed a way of breathing under water.
  • They can grow new teeth back.
  • They have teeth that are adapted to their type of "meals" using three rows of teeth and have over 50 sets unlike humans who only have 2 to replace any that wear out
  • Cartilaginous skeleton= easier movement and more flexibility
  • Lateral lines
  • Spiral intestines
  • Two claspers as opposed to one
  • They have a great sense of smell and sight for easier hunting.

Crocodiles have powerful jaw muscles that can deliver bite forces up to 3,700 lb (depending on the individuals size). They have sharp teeth for grasping prey. Their eyes and nostrils are on the top of their heads, which allows them to submerge almost all they way, but still be able to see prey above the water and breathe air. They have a clear eyelid which protects the eyes. They are covered in hard scales, making them more invulnerable to attack by other carnivores. They have a flattened, powerful tail that they can use for swimming.

Discuss 3 adaptations for life in water that the shark had?

Sharks never lived on land so they didn't ADAPT to water. They always have lived in water. When a shark knocks on your front door, you can say that they adapted to a new environment. Adaptations can only be in behavior. Physical attributes are defined by genetics which means, they are what they are. They aren't adaptations. They can be physical traits of survivors.Ken, the Shark Wrangler, www.sharkwrangler.com
